T-Stór, Teagasc Open Access Repository, has been included as a participating repository in RIAN, the national open access portal, which aims to make Irish research material more freely accessible. RIAN aims to increase the research profiles of individual researchers and their institutions. In the context of scientific research dissemination, ‘Open Access’ refers to the free availability on the public Internet of scholarly articles published in an electronic format, permitting any user to read and re-use the content, provided only that the author is properly acknowledged and cited.

RIAN is a web-based Open Access portal that now harvests and displays the content from the repositories of thirteen Irish research institutions. T-Stór allows Teagasc to participate in Open Access research publication and dissemination, and enables Teagasc researchers to comply with Open Access mandates from the Department of Agriculture, EU, SFI and other funding bodies. Teagasc is a signatory to, and fully supports, the National Principles for Open Access Policy Statement.

Teagasc Director of Research, Dr Frank O’Mara, says: “Participation in RIAN is a welcome development for Teagasc which launched T-Stór only a year ago. Teagasc researchers collaborate extensively with our colleagues in Irish universities. Participation in RIAN is a welcome extension of this collaboration and builds on Teagasc place as leading organisation in the fields of agriculture and food research in Ireland.” RIAN assists in the wider dissemination of Irish research outputs and supports funders in gauging the impact of their funding.

It will also provide a Europe-wide platform for Teagasc research, through the forthcoming inclusion of RIAN in the EU’s OpenAIRE portal.
