25 roles to be created by US legal services firm in first non-US expansion

Dublin, 17th November 2014 –  NightOwl Discovery, a world leader in discovery management, is to establish its European Centre of Excellence for eDiscovery in Dublin, leading to 25 legal and technology jobs over the next three years.

Founded in 1991 and headquartered in Minneapolis, NightOwl Discovery is a provider of eDiscovery services, a process of collecting, preparing, reviewing, and producing electronically stored information (ESI) before legal trials, investigations, or regulatory reviews.

The Irish centre will be NightOwl’s first non-US operations office and will be tasked with providing data operations and review facilities for its European clients. The investment is supported by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation through IDA Ireland.

With new offices on Harcourt Road, Dublin 2, NightOwl Discovery’s European Centre of Excellence will focus on providing managed discovery and review services to law firms and corporations, both in Ireland and across Europe. Roles for legal and forensic technology experts will be recruited immediately, in addition to staffing the document review centre with qualified solicitors and barristers.

NightOwl Discovery helps companies and law firms in the most demanding industries manage electronic documents through investigations, disputes, and regulatory reviews. Its tailored programs, technology, and guidance complement and maximise existing investments in people, process, and technology. NightOwl Discovery will offer services spanning the full discovery lifecycle and the entire case portfolio, including information lifecycle governance and data remediation.

The European Centre of Excellence will provide secure, high performance data processing, hosting, and production capabilities featuring the Relativity platform, and will also offer comprehensive review management, predictive coding, and data collection services across the EU.

NightOwl Discovery has seen significant growth fuelled by the global explosion of data volumes and the need to address affairs concerning the analysis and protection of privacy jurisdictions. The European Centre of Excellence in Dublin is a key part of the company’s expansion of its global cross-border litigation services, which includes offices in London, and a data centre in Hong Kong.

“I am excited at the prospect of establishing Ireland as a Centre of Excellence for eDiscovery services,” said Simon Collins, who leads the EU operations for NightOwl Discovery. “Ireland offers an excellent mix of highly skilled multi-lingual personnel, a well-established technology infrastructure, coupled with easy access to the entire European market, making it the ideal location to provide legal services across the EU.”

“We gave careful consideration to multiple locations for our EU Centre of Excellence and found Ireland was perfectly suited to meet our business objectives. IDA was an enormous help in supporting and facilitating our efforts, and we are very excited to be fully operational and engaging with clients,” said Andrea Wallack, CEO of NightOwl Discovery Global.

Minister for Jobs, Enterprise & Innovation Richard Bruton TD said: “This is another great boost for the technology sector in Dublin. This is an area which we have specifically identified as part of our Action Plan for Jobs, we have put in place specific measures to support this sector, and we are seeing real results. NighOwl discovery is a world-leader in its sector, and today’s announcement that it is coming to Dublin and creating 25 jobs here is great news. I wish them every success with this operation”.

The Chief Executive of IDA Ireland, Martin Shanahan said: “Nightowl is bringing a spirit of innovation to a traditional part of the economy, and Ireland will benefit from its decision to expand outside the US with this new operations centre. The company’s reasons for locating in Ireland revolve around the strong talent offering this country provides. It is a reason other companies also increasingly cite when they make significant investment decisions in favour of Ireland”.

NightOwl Discovery co-sponsored the eDiscovery Conference 2014 at Clontarf Castle Hotel in Dublin on November 14th. The conference brings together leading international speakers who will provide practical guidance on eDiscovery basics as well as advanced topics such as technology assisted review and predictive coding.
